Hand-forged wrought-iron garden furniture

Wrought iron has a timeless presence in the garden. Hand-forged by craftsmen, each piece is meant to last (more than) a lifetime.

Gérard Moinat comes from a family rooted in furniture and decoration in Rolle since 1920. He has brought historic wrought-iron models back to life — adapting them to the expectations of modern outdoor living.

A family story, told in two beginnings

The Maison Moinat story starts in 1920 with Louis Moinat—decorator and antiques dealer—who began reproducing French-style outdoor furniture models in Switzerland. They were loved. The pieces travelled across the country, and production continued almost without interruption until the early 2000s, when the last skilled ironworker disappeared.

But the story doesn’t end there. It begins again—almost 100 years later.

As a child, Gérard had carefully kept a small box that once belonged to his great-grandfather. In 2010, he opened it—and found a quiet treasure inside: a dusty printing stamp showing a wrought-iron chair. It was a scaled blueprint of the historical models.

That discovery became a challenge and a mission: revive a craft that had disappeared, protect a century-old heritage—and adapt it to the expectations of today.

The “Héritage” collection

Inspired by the original historical models, Héritage blends memory with modern standards: updated dimensions, reinforced materials, and everyday comfort.

Its signature detail is the use of perforated metal sheets for seats and tabletops—an idea drawn from traditional cane weaving. Finishes are built for the long term: sandblasted metal, anti-rust primer, and a highly resistant two-component paint system.

A custom RAL color is available (default: RAL 9010 Pure White). Over time, subtle marks and patina give each piece a distinctive charm—while requiring only minimal upkeep, designed to endure for generations.

Finishes, craftsmanship, and bespoke details

Artistic ironwork
Everything starts with steel—chosen for its surface quality and rigidity, because true beauty begins with strength. Then comes the most striking moment: heated until glowing red, the metal softens and comes alive. Each element is shaped by hand on jigs to regain the exactness of the lines, the balance of the curves, and the spirit of the original models.

Welds, scrolls, and finishing details receive meticulous attention—the quiet signatures of exceptional furniture.

Made-to-measure cushions
For outdoor use, each model can be paired with custom cushions designed around real life outside—sun, humidity, and changing seasons.

- Water- and moisture-resistant “hydro” foam
